ASTRO Radio Tuner Software R01.02.00

Introduction:
------------

Welcome to the ASTRO Radio Windows Tuner Software by Motorola.  
The notes below serve to introduce you to the software you are 
about to install.  Please read these notes in their entirety 
before installing and using this software.


Added feature:
-------------
'Battery Reading Calibration' has been added to this version of
the Tuner, this alignment procedure adjusts the Low Battery 
Transmit Threshold Level used by the radio when determining the 
Threshold for the Low Battery Indicator. Calibration is required 
only for radios that exhibit premature low battery indication.


Compatibility:
-------------

The ASTRO Radio Tuner is compatible with
Windows 98/NT/2000/ME/XP.  


Hardware Requirements:
---------------------

The following should be considered minimum hardware requirements
for running the ASTRO Radio Tuner.

Processor      400 MHz or higher Pentium grade Processor
Memory         128 MB RAM recommended (Win 98/98SE/ME)
               128 MB RAM minimum (Win NT 4.0 SP6+ / Win2000/ XP)

Hard Disk Space  500MB hard drive with 40MB free space
 
Peripherals    One Serial COM Port
               CD-ROM Drive

   

Pre-Installation:
----------------

Before installing the ASTRO Radio Tuner on
a Windows 98 system, certain Microsoft update procedures must 
be performed in order to ensure compatibility. No update is 
needed for other operating systems. You have been provided with
the executable files required in the CPS\System Upgrade folder
on the Installation CD.  

   1)  Windows98.  Double-click on the dcom98.exe
       file in the System Upgrade folder of the 
       Installation CD.  Restart your computer.
       
   2)  No update is needed for other operating systems.

You must exit any active CPS or Tuner applications.  If the
Motorola Application Launcher appears in the system tray of
the taskbar, close this too.  (Right-click on the radio icon,
and select Close.)


ASTRO Radio Tuner Installation:
-------------------------------

When you insert the Installation CD into the CD-ROM drive of
your computer, the installation should run automatically. If it 
does not, run Setup.exe directly from your CD drive and follow
the instructions. You may choose to install the CPS or the Tuner
or both.


Uninstalling the Tuner:
-----------------------

Before uninstalling the ASTRO Radio Tuner, the 
following must be performed.

   1) Close the Motorola Application Launcher, if its 
      icon appears in the system tray of the taskbar.
   2) Exit any active CPS/Tuner applications.

Then to uninstall, select Start->Settings->Control Panel and double
click on Add/Remove Programs.  In the Add/Remove Programs window,
select ASTRO Radio Tuner and follow the instructions.


Online Help:
-----------

Extensive online Help is available from within the application. After
activating the Tuner (Start>Programs->Motorola->ASTRO Products->
ASTRO Radio Tuner), choose "Help Topics" from the Help menu.  A full
listing of Help and Tutorial topics will appear.  

Known Issues:
-------------

1) Tuner performance varies with processor speed and RAM.

2) The Program button will fail to store the value if the radio
   contains a non-standard serial number.

3) When running Windows 98 or Windows ME, in the Bit Error Rate (BER) 
   feature screen, running a continuous test when BER integration
   time in .360 seconds, sometimes the application will generate a 
   "Synchronization with radio failed" message after the test has 
   reported "Test in Progress...Please Wait".  
   Please reset the radio and read the radio again with the Tuner 
   application.

4) When running Windows 98 or Windows ME, in the Bit Error Rate (BER) 
   feature screen, sometimes when changing Audio field for "External" 
   to "Internal" or vice versa, the radio resets after the test has 
   reported "Test in Progress...Please Wait". When this happens,
   please read the radio again with the Tuner application.

5) It has been reported that in some Dell Optiplex GX1 computers, Bit
   Error Rate (BER) feature generates "Communications with radio failed"
   message. When this happens, please reset radio and read the radio
   again with the Tuner application.
